Each month, I will be asking all the important questions (and some less important ones) to a different inspirational person from within the pin up community. September's Profile has a Halloween twist as we're in full on spooky mode at Pin Up and Pearl. I've spoken to Georgina Lee- jewellery maker and creator of the Facebook group 'The Weekly Pin Up Challenge'. If you would like to take part in a future edition, please get in touch.
How would you define your style? Personally I’d describe my style as gothic rockabilly with some pinup thrown in for good measure.
What drew you to that particular style? I was the typical emo kid growing up and always loved vintage and pinup clothing so incorporated the styles together to make my own style
What are your top tips for a Halloween pin up/vintage look? Dark matte red lipsticks give such a spooky sultry vibe without being too over the top. I also love the half skeleton half pinup makeup that went around a few years ago.
What are some of your favourite brands? Hell bunny is by far my favourite 90% of my wardrobe comes from them. I also love Collectif, Banned and Killstar.
Cats or dogs? I love both but have to say cats as I own 4!!
What’s your favourite ever Halloween outfit? I usually do a vampire as it’s fairly easy to do but this year I’m planning a spider queen look 😍
What was your most memorable wardrobe mishap? Oh wow 😂 I definitely have had a few but most memorable was a few years ago I was wearing a gorgeous black wiggle dress with red piping as we were hosting a pizza double date at our house. I bent down to move the cat as I went to open the door and my dress split from bottom to the zipper leaving my bum hanging out 😂 I had to run upstairs and change before my other half could open the door.
You now own a magic wardrobe- it’s the only way you can get clothes, they are all vintage and in perfect condition and it contains a never-ending supply of them. However, all the clothes must come from the same decade. What decade do you choose? It would have to be the 30’s it’s a style I’ve always adored but struggled to achieve so many unique looks and feel it’s a disregarded decade.
What are some of your hobbies/interests outside of fashion? I have soo many hobbies I do everything from knitting to making my own clay jewelry for my business (@georginaleesvintage on Instagram and Facebook) I love baking and makeup too.
Have you got any tips for someone just starting their pin up/vintage style journey? Have fun with it, you don’t need to be 100% perfect for the era you are trying to achieve, play with different styles to find what suits you and what makes you feel good!
And finally… tell us your favourite random fact. Ooh a random fact? This is more a weird one 😂 the creator of Pringles tubes is actually buried in one!
