October Pin Up Profile- Amy Jo

Each month, I will be asking all the important questions (and some less important ones) to a different inspirational person from within the pin up community. For October, I have spoken to Amy Jo, vintage enthusiast and seller of antiques and collectibles. If you would like to take part in a future edition, please get in touch.

How would you define your style? I would define my style as a mixture of modern and vintage- classic with a touch of rockabilly!

What drew you to that particular style? I was drawn to this particular style because I never had a lot of money to buy true vintage pieces, so I learned to incorporate modern pieces that looked or had a vintage feel to them to fill in the gaps in my wardrobe and give me the looks I was going for!

What are some of your favourite brands? Some of my favorite brands past and present are Lindy Bop, Voodoo Vixen, Hell Bunny, Gown town and Belle Poque.

Cats or dogs? Dogs- for sure!

What was your most memorable wardrobe mishap? The worst mishap had to be when my false eyelash started to fall off halfway through a photo shoot- of course I forgot to bring extra glue! Grrr!

You now own a magic wardrobe- it’s the only way you can get clothes, they are all vintage and in perfect condition and it contains a never-ending supply of them. However, all the clothes must come from the same decade. What decade do you choose? 1940’s for sure.

Who are your favourite musicians? I love Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, Doris Day, Elvis, Johnny Mathis, Nat King Cole- I could go on!

What are some of your hobbies/interests outside of fashion? I buy and sell antiques and collectibles at flea markets or online.

Have you got any tips for someone just starting their pin up/vintage style journey? Just go for it- if you love vintage fashion and want to make it a lifestyle choice you won’t regret it, again local thrift shops can provide vintage or vintage inspired pieces that can get you started as well as informative YouTube videos that can provide inspiration on what pieces to start out buying!

And finally… tell us your favourite random fact. Random fact: If you have ever watched the movie “The Radium Girls” supposedly to this day if you hold a Geiger counter over the grave of a radium girl you will still get a “spike” on the Geiger counter due to the amount of radium the girls consumed and were contaminated within their bodies…. Crazy
